“MAIL” Kick-off meeting in Brussels
On January 16th, 2019 the kick-off meeting of MAIL project (Identifying Marginal Lands in Europe and strengthening their contribution potentialities in a CO2 sequestration strategy) took place in Brussels.
Its main objective is to detect marginal lands, to classify them and to evaluate their potential use as carbon sinks into the European Union. Indicatively, marginal lands might be abandoned lands, unproductive lands, degraded lands, barren lands, contaminated lands, etc.
The project focuses at mountainous and semi-mountainous Marginal Lands in order to avoid conflict with the agro food sector.

The project is founded by EU Research and Innovation programme “Horizon 2020”. Particularly by Marie Skłodowska-Curie/ RISE action (International and inter-sectoral cooperation through the Research and Innovation Staff Exchanges) where its implementation is based on specialized personnel secondments.
The project is fully founded with total budget of 800,400.00 €. Officially started in 01/01/2019 with 36 months duration.
